Description

The Parish of All Saints is almost entirely residential; comprising late Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing in the south; a central area which was developed progressively over the first half of the 20th century; and a still larger area of recent housing to the north and west, which has substantially increased in the last decade. We have a population of about 11,000. A full range of backgrounds, experiences and age groups are well represented within the boundary.

Kettering evolved from a medieval agricultural market town (elements of which still remain in the town’s ‘Heritage Quarter’ which contains the church of St Peter and St Paul and a small museum) to a manufacturer of woollen cloth in the 17th century. It expanded rapidly in the late 19th century, as Northamptonshire became a major centre for boot and shoe manufacture, supplemented by the engineering and clothing industries. The shoe industry has all but disappeared, with All Saints Parish containing one of the last remaining factories; but several of the former factory buildings still remain, converted for other industrial use or into flats; and the thousands of terraced houses in the town date from that era.

All Saints Parish was one of several parishes created in 1916 out of the single Parish of Kettering, to accommodate the expansion of the town. However, there has been a church on the present site since 1898.
